Activity Time. Galaxy Sensory Bin

My mini monsters love a sensory bin and with our theme of space this fortnight I thought a galaxy space bin would be an awesome idea! I had never tried to colour rice before but thanks to the help of Clare and Emma I gave it a go and it came out amazing!

This post contains some Amazon Affiliate Links (I searched so you don't have too!)

To colour the rice I simply poured the amount of rice I wanted into a food bag and squeezed in some paint and used my hands to move the rice around the bag to make sure it was all coated (yep it was really this easy!) I then emptied the rice out onto a tray covered with greaseproof paper and popped it into a cooling down oven. Some of them did dry in the sun of the kitchen too.

What you need:

Rice
Paint (in any colours you like, we used dark blue, purple, black, gold silver and some glitter paint too)
Tray

Once all of your rice is dry empty it into the tray, I did originally have it all swirled in a galaxy effect, this didn't last long as the monsters mixed it all up before I had even managed to grab my camera! I placed some of the stars and images on top of the rice and left the rest to the side for them to play with independently.

There are so many different ways this could be played with, from simply just the rice, then maybe introducing each extra overnight so that the bin doesn't get boring. The mini monsters also loved playing with this bin in the dark, the glow in the dark stars made the bin look even more awesome! Next time I might even try some glow in the dark paint too!
