Budget Family Meal Plan #49

We started meal planning on and off about 3 or 4 years ago but I have been making regular weekly meal plans for the last 18 months. By planning our meals, making, and sticking to, a shopping list our food shop costs have dropped from £120 a week to around £60-80 a week, which is a great saving in itself yet by also changing the day and time we shop, from a Saturday afternoon to a Friday night, we have reduced our food shop BY HALF again, and so now our shop each week comes to between £30 and £45. I highly recommend heading out to the supermarkets for the end of day yellow sticker bargains if you can, both me and Dean used to turn our nose up at the people hanging around for the reduction's trolley, but how wrong we were! I will get around to writing a post and maybe filming a video to tell you how to shop yellow sticker stuff smartly, I promise!

You can watch my meal planning process on YouTube,  we also share regular grocery hauls, meal ideas and more. Be sure to subscribe if that's your thing!

Last week's meal plan was nothing short of a disaster! Out of 7 planned meals we had one meal on plan!! I mean, sometimes this happens, and we didn't end up buying anything extra, we just used what we had in. But with it being half-term we were actually quite busy so just ended up having quick tea's. I wrote a what we ate on Feeding My Family For Less if you want to see what we actually ate.

I post some of our makes, bakes and meals over on our new foodie based account over on Instagram @feedingmyfamilyforless for a week or so, I also plan on sharing some cook with me and grocery hauls on IGTV too, so please click the follow button if you are on Instagram, it would mean the world!

Anyway enough of the gabble, here are this week's meal plan...

Saturday. Veggie pasta bake

It is Elsie's birthday party at lunch-time so something that can just be quickly made and chucked in the oven.

Sunday. Home-made pizzas

We have some Jus-rol pizza base dough I  picked up in Heron (it was 4 dough bases for £1, what a bargain!!) that need using up so something easy for football Sunday!

Monday. 'McMummy'

I know we had a Mcdonalds on Friday but it is Elsie's birthday and I asked her what she wanted for tea, and she said a home-made Mcdonalds (we call it a McMummy after seeing someone I follow-on Instagram call it that!)

Tuesday. Lentil cottage pie and veggies (via Today We Cooked Instagram) #meatfree

This is a family fave, we love it. I will be changing up the recipe a little though, and I am going to make a beer based gravy instead of red wine...fingers crossed for me!!

Wednesday. Caribbean Rice via A Spicy Perspective

Something quick...remember Wednesdays are one of many nights at football!

Thursday. Slow cooker jacket potatoes

My niece, nephew and sister come round on a Thursday (football!!) and slow cooker jacket potatoes are great for feeding a crowd! We can fit around 9 good size potatoes in our slow cooker.

Friday. Slow cooker meatballs and pasta

I can make this whilst the kids are at school and I will make up some pasta after school, add it to the slow cooker and turn it to warm. We can then all eat as and when, Fridays are pretty busy!

  1. I love McMummy and will be stealig that one hahaha. I have just discovered slow cooker jackets and they are just brilliant

  2. Ahh! I think we all have weeks where it doesn't go to plan. I have found we always go off plan during the school holidays.
I hope Elsie had a fab birthday party and has a fab birthday today. McMummy! Love it!
All of your meals sound delicious x

  3. 4 bases for £1 really is such a bargain! Love it. You can't beat making a nice homemade pizza.
