Budget Family Meal Plan #46

Right so, we are trying something new...we tried it last month and we actually saved a hefty amount (or at least we would have if we hadn't of wasted that money on eating out...I've started meal planning and shopping monthly for the main shopping items and then each week we get the fresh veg and fresh fruit that we find yellow stickered, then things like bread, cheese (why do we eat so much!), and milk as and when we need it! Last month (September) it worked a treat, so I am hoping it works just as well this month. I will still share weekly plans though because it just suits me better as a blogger to have up weekly plans, it also means that I can sit and bulk type the months meal plans and I shouldn't miss a week ever again!!

We started meal planning on and off about 3 or 4 years ago but I have been making regular weekly meal plans for the last 18 months. By planning our meals, making, and sticking to, a shopping list our food shop costs have dropped from £120 a week to around £60-80 a week, which is a great saving in itself yet by also changing the day and time we shop, from a Saturday afternoon to a Friday night, we have reduced our food shop BY HALF again, and so now our shop each week comes to between £30 and £45. I highly recommend heading out to the supermarkets for the end of day yellow sticker bargains if you can, both me and Dean used to turn our nose up at the people hanging around for the reductions trolley, but how wrong we were! I will get around to writing a post and maybe filming a video to tell you how to shop yellow sticker stuff smartly, I promise!

Last week's meal plan was a bit hit and miss! Some days we stuck to plan other days I was unmotivated or busy that we just had something quick or a naughty takeaway! Ooooppss!!

Anyways enough of the gabble, here is this weeks meal plan...

Monday: Cheesy omelettes and beans (1/3 of this weeks veggie meals) 

Something quick and easy, Jensons football training has changed to a Monday night, so back to quick meals!

Tuesday: Gammon, egg, chips and peas.

One of Deans faves so I thought I would make it for his birthday, even though its not his birthday until Wednesday...but hey the kids football training and all that!!

Wednesday: Slow cooker Jacket potatoes with cheesy beans (2/3 of this weeks veggie meals)

Seriously slow cooker jacket potatoes are my fave thing to make for a super quick midweek meal, no messing around just prick them roll them in foil chuck in your slow cooker for a few hours and bam...ready when you are!

Thursday: Hot dogs and hidden veggie chilli nachos

This is one of the kiddos fave, and super simple for a busy night with a load of kids to feed! My sister comes round on a Thursday after school, and then I usually have my other niece too whilst my other sister works, so with 7 kiddos mouths to feed, you can imagine that I just want to be in and out of the kitchen quickly! I got some of these style baskets in Home Bargains that the kids LOVE to have their tea in, I line them with napkins so that the chilli doesnt go everywhere. (AFF LINK)

Friday: Fakeaway chippy 

Now we have dropped the Friday night food shop, Fridays are a little more chilled out. So I have a fakeaway chippy, although if we are at my Nan's after school she does always cook us tea so this may not happen. 

Saturday: Pizza night

This weeks meal plan isn't really the healthiest huh? Next week will be better I promise!

Sunday: Slow cooker herby chicken in white sauce with rice

Sunday is match day, so something I can chuck in the slow cooker quickly the morning before we all leave the house!
