Blog Stars Little Stars with Clares Little Tots

Welcome back to Blog Stars Little Stars, the guest post series where some of my favourite bloggers interview their little stars and we find out what the kids really think! This week we are joined by the ever so fabulous (if I do say so myself!!) Clare and 2 year old Georgia. Clare blogs over at Clares Little Tots and you can find her on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Getting Healthy and Stopping The 'Diets'.

I just started to read a post over at Pouting In Heels it's all about body image and it starts with a tale of a Mum and Daughter talking about chips, and I mean reading it made me stop and come over to a blank blog page and has made me write this post, the fastest post I have ever written (start to finish in less than 20 minutes) because its all honest, its from my heart and because I mean every word, I hit publish without even thinking about it, because that young girl, that Mum that Kate heard...could easily have been me.

I don't want this to jut sit as a draft for me to never see again. I want it out there so that you all know, for you to stop me the next time you see/read/hear me complaining, moaning, feeling guilty.

As you all know I was a Slimming World member for the most of last year, I stopped in October due to me being a bit ill and have since made an attempt to return that lasted 2 weeks and I was due to start back in January too BUT I am yet to return, It doesn't mean I am a failure, but there's one big thing stopping me...

This girl....

My beautiful, gorgeous, kind, loving 10 year old Ellie. The girl who has started obsessing with foods, fussing over foods, breathing in so she doesn't look 'fat, crying because a stupid boy at school called her ugly because of her glasses.

So for now its time to stop counting the syns, stop checking calories, stop searching menu's for the best option, its time to stop feeling guilty for that piece of chocolate cake at pudding. Time to stop feeling ridiculously guilty because we went for hot chocolate. Its time to start enjoying life and stop panicking about what the scales will say on Monday.  It's time to stop with the 'I'm too fat for that dress'.

Dean will always come home from work and greet me with an 'Alright Beautiful' or a 'Hiya Gorgeous' and I will shout at him to stop being stupid, time to stop telling Dean 'don't call me beautiful, you know I'm not'.

Don't get me wrong I don't intend to turn into Waynetta Slob but it's time to start caring for my body in a healthy way, thinking of myself in a positive way. Because if my husband and kids are telling me I am beautiful then I must be...right? It's time to start taking the time to take a pride in the way I look, instead of moaning about how I look, do something about it by taking 5 minutes in the morning to just put some makeup on.

And not so that Ellie things you have to live a life wearing makeup, I mean I only wear a little foundation and mascara, but because I know when I have make up on I feel better about myself.

And if I feel better about myself I know I wont be moaning about myself.

And if I'm not moaning at myself, fighting with myself, hating myself then Ellie wont be hearing it and she wont be thinking that the way someone looks is important.

I have started Thinking Slimmer, which works on your mindset. There is no 'diet' its all about your mind, your thinking, your attitude. Ellie knows nothing about it, she doesn't need to know. All she needs to see is a healthy attitude towards food, and weight, and body image.

So FU*K YOU demons, FU*K YOU! I'm not listening to you anymore...I'm not letting you rule my life...I'm not letting you ruin my 10 year old's child hood...I'm not letting you make me make my daughter hate herself. (does that even make sense?)...I'm not letting you tell me I'm not beautiful anymore...I'm not letting you tell me I'm fat anymore. I'M NOT, I'M NOT, I'M NOT!

4 Ingredient Chocolate Banana Bread | Cooking With Kids

After our Swiss Roll Failure at the beginning of the week I was dubious to do any more baking BUT its what the monsters wanted to do and also my Nan had bought us round about 25 banana's that she had picked up in Tesco last nights, so in the end it was a toss up between Banana Bread and Banoffe Pie, we went with Banana Bread (obvs!) with just 4 ingredients and 5 easy steps...who can resist!

Your 4 Ingredients:

3 bananas
2 eggs
Chocolate Spread
Packet/Boxed Sponge Mix

And here are the 5 easy steps:

1. Mash the banana's...

2. Mix the banana and 2 eggs together...

3. Stir in the cake mix...

4. Stir in a couple of dollops of chocolate spread...

5. Pour into a loaf tin and into a preheated oven (Gas 4) for 35-40 minutes...

And Voila...

Toddler Approved Tuesday

This week I am sharing an oldie but a goodie...Indoor Snow!

Follow the link below, to one of my earlier posts for the full 'How To'!

#MumFail. Swiss Rolls.

You know from day one I always promised to share my Mum fails and so here is my latest....the recipe PROMISED  a quick and easy swiss roll! And with just 3 ingredients (not counting the fillning) I have to say it sounded promising!

But alas it wasn't to be after a pretty impressive sponge prep, ERM HELLO 3 MONSTER'S ALL CRACKING EGGS INTO THEIR OWN SEPARATE MIXING BOWLS, AT.THE.SAME.TIME!

Now what the recipe failed to tell me was to a) Score the sponge after taking it out of the oven and b) roll whilst still warm!

So after leaving to cool completely we spread the cream and the jam and rolled, well I say roll...

On Facebook they were compared to bacon rolls (I kinda see where they were coming from!)

15 Things To Do When You Get The Mum Title! #MummyBucketList

So a while back I posted 15 things all baby's, toddlers and tween's do so to finish off my list (OK all be it a few months later!) I thought we would have a #MummyBucketList!

1. When ever you go to the toilet it is a MUST to take someone to watch you. Preferably someone who will ask inappropriate questions at inappropriate times.

2. From the day you take on your Mum title you will no longer enjoy hot LOVE to wait for them to go cold.I'm

3. Your new best friends are Alex, Rebecca, Cat, Cerrie, Katy and Andy. And you don't have to wait weeks to see them! Just pop over to 121 freeview channel or Sky channel 614 and see them everyday!

Me and my BFF's...I'm in the Pudsey suit (maybe!)

4. When in the car you choose the local radio station over Radio One because you don't know any of the songs they play anymore and  unfortunately Cbeebies radio is only available online GOD DAM!

5. You will figure that kids books are better than grown up novels anyway!

6. For your weekly night out you will choose to go late night shopping at Tesco because someone forgot nappies and that bottle of Calpol has gone AWOL.

7. Your favourite fragrance should be a choice of pong de shyte or eau de vomit. You are the envy of every 20 something without kids!

8. Your man crush is Mr Bloom. No not Mr. ORLANDO Bloom...THE Mr Bloom..

I include images of both for you to perv over  to recognise the difference

9.  You will need to make a start on turning into you Mother.

10. You will gain a super power in which you know what time it is by what you are watching on tele BUT will have no concept of 'days of the week'...what do you mean it Friday today?

11. Pyjama's should become your outfit of choice. And those amazing shoes you love? Yeah replace them with some snazzy Mum slippers!

12. You need to start forgetting to brush your hair. end.of.conversation.

13. You will have to stop buying glossy mag with free make-up (your never gonna wear it anyway) in favour of that awesome yet shit plastic toy on the cover of a comic!

14. Your tired BUT instead of staying in bed until lunch time you really want to get out of bed at half 5 every morning just so you can watch Mr Bloom (*blush*) on the iplayer.

15. Lastly you need to go to Primark and buy EVERY LAST PAIR OF LEGGINGS they have in your size, because when PJ' arent an option leggings are your best friend! And because one day my day they wont be a 'fashion' thing and this way you know you have enough to last you all the way through your Mummy career! (Yes, I know that is a lifetime career, that is why you need so many!)

Quick and Simple Penguin Craft.

This is a really good activity for when the kids are board, playing up and you don't have a mass of time to get something ready!

Simple prep, simple to do...Its a win win all round!

What you need:

Black card
White paper
Orange card/paper
Googly eyes

First cut a large kind of figure 8 type shape from the black card, then from the craps cut out 2 thin semi circles, about the same length as the bottom half of your '8'. Then cut a circle thats smaller in size to the bottom half of your '8' to finish off you will want a small orange triangle for a beak and 2 googly eyes.

Hint: If your child has the scissor skills they could cut out the shape themselves.

There aren't really any other instructions, its pretty self explanatory, start by gluing your white cirlce to the bottom part of the body, glue the semi circle wings on via the back then add a beak and 2 eyes to complete.

We used a pritt stick to ensure it was quick drying then they at and played with them 'talking' to each other!

Braun Thermoscan 7 with Age Precision Review

When I was asked if I would like to review Brauns newest Thermoscan thermometer with Age Precision I jumped at the chance, with all 4 at different ages it can get a bit confusing with knowing the 'right temperature' so this would take away all of that guessing whether it was high or not!

The last few weeks have been full of poorly monsters from a teething Elsie to a Jenson full of cold to an Evie who was 'under the weather' so we have given the Thermoscan a good old try out!

Firstly, did you know that the definition of a 'high temperature' changes with age? Especially in young children, did you know that a regular temperature for a 3 year old can mean a very high temp in a young baby? No? That's where the Thermoscan's Age Precision comes in!

Before you take the temperature you quickly select your little one's age group which is as simple as the click of a button. Then the Thermoscan does all the work for you using a colour coded display.

Green indicates a normal temperature.
Yellow indicates a elevated temperature.
Red indicates a high temperature.

After selecting your appropriate age group the thermometer works by simply popping it gently inside the ear pressing the button and waiting for the beep to tell you that the temperature has been taken, but don't worry its super quick, literally just a couple of seconds, and even Jenson (who hates having his temperature taken) didn't mind one bit having his temperature taken. Which is quite a change from the long long LONG wait of our usual under arm thermometer.

And our usual under arm thermometer usually ends up in a screaming tantrum because of its awkwardness , which obviously no parent wants!

You also get a supply of 40 disposable lens filters in the box too and batteries meaning your ready to go as soon as you have bought it!

Braun also have the backing of Dr. Ranj and on Monday 26th, and Wednesday 28th January between 12:00pm and 1:00pm. Braun will be hosting a Twitter party Q&A sessions with the man himself!

So if you have a question make sure you’re following us at @braun_therms and use the hashtag #askdrranj when you pose your question. AND everyone who tweets Dr Ranj with a query will be entered into a draw to win one of two thermometers.

We absolubtly love this thermometer and although the price is quite high for a thermometer (our old one cost 99p from Home Bargains!) I totally worth the money for a) the speed it delievers the temperature and b) the fact that there are no tantrums, which is a huge bonus if you ask me!

ThermoScan® 7 ear thermometer with Age Precision® (IRT6520) has an RRP of £49.99 and is available to buy from Boots. At time of posting this review the thermometer was available at discount price of £34.99

Bobux Xplorer Shoes Review

We love shoes! I am slightly obsessed with shoe's for the girls! So when Bobux got in touch and asked u to roadtest their brand spanking new (not available just yet) Xplorer shoes we jumped at the chance!

You see I struggle to find shoes suitable for little Elsie, she ha been walking since she was 10 months old and her feet are still teeney (she's 14 months old and still wears age 6-9 with size 2 feet, it is impossible to buoutdoor shoes for hr, Clark's refused to sell me any shoes for her because the shoes in her size aren't suitable for her stage and the stage she is at doesnt have her size!)

So when we heard that Bobux Xplorer's were suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, the makers have designed them to be soft and flexible enough for inside and robust enough for outdoors we were very pleased that at last we could have some suitable shoes for her little feet!

What are the Bobux Xplorer and why are they so special?

Bobux specialise in baby, toddler and pre-school shoes designed to mimic the freedom of going barefoot. The Xplorer shoe, designed by footwear designer, Sean Maisano (who has created for the likes of Adidas and Prada!!) is Bobux's revolution in shoe design, and is based on a simple insight:

''There are no shoes that fully cater to the needs of a child who is learning to walk. Children at this stage are sometimes crawling, sometimes walking, both indoors and out. This developmental phase requires shoes that are soft and flexible enough for crawling and cruising inside but also robust enough for the outside environment. Xplorer meets this challenge while still supporting the natural development of a child’s feet.''

The range will be available in 9 colour options over 3 styles of shoes. Origin (with a leather upper), Freestyle (with a cotton canvas upper) and Arctic (with a leather upper and merino lining) and have an RRP from £27.
The shoes we have reviewed are the Origin style.

Exploring her new shoes!

Comfy (and still on her feet!!!) in the car.

Final Thoughts.

I love these shoes, I didn't think I was going to as they really aren't the kind of thing I usually go for, design wise. But I am so happy we got a chance to try these out and road test them.

Elsie loved the comfort of them and hasn't once taken them off her feet when they are on! A mear Mummy defeat over the expert hands of a baby shoe-taker-offer!!

I feel her feet are safe enough to explore outside but they are easy indoor wear aswell.

Want some for your monster?

If you like the look of the Bobux Xplorer head over to the Bobux website and keep an eye out  for them in the new Spring/Summer 2015 collection.

Disclaimer: We were sent the Xplorer's  free of charge, all opinions are my own.

The Giggles Family

How Safe Is Your Home? With CORGI HomePlan.

Last year we had a real fright, I could smell gas in our home...

It was about 7 o clock on a Winter's Friday night, a scary wait for the gas man to get to us not able to do anything, not even switch a light switch just incase. Dean was quite blase about it all...I, well I was shi**ing it! Scared that anything could set our home alight in a gas explosion.

It turned out to be our gas oven, the pipe had a small hole in it as was leaking gas into our home. The home where my children should be safe. Still to this day I panic about what could have happened that night.

What if it hadn't have been a Friday? I know that may make no sense to you all...but Friday night is takeaway night. What if I had cooked that night? What could have happened when I switched the oven on? It all scares me so much.

And so when I got the opportunity to tell you all about the CORGI Home Plan I jumped at the chance. I mean is it worth the risk? I think not especially when i read that in the last three years, an estimated one in six homes inspected by the Gas Safe Register was found to have an unsafe gas appliance and one in eleven has an unsafe boiler.

And then to read that every year in the UK, more than 200 people go to hospital with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, and around 40 people die. Small children and the elderly are most at risk.

And that is why CORGI Home Plan is campaigning for every home to get a carbon monoxide detector. Especially now that winter is under way, it is a critical time for boilers, most people will have had the heating switched off for the summer and will fire it up with their fingers crossed hoping it comes on so that their family will be toasty warm. But without a detector that little detector they will have no idea that carbon monoxide may be seeping from their boiler. This colourless, odourless gas is a silent killer.

CORGI have also set up a website full of useful information to make sure families are aware of the dangers their gas appliances may hold.

And did you know there's a little gadget that could help safe your lives? An alarm that could cost as little as £15.

This one little gadget could save your, and your children's lifes. So what are you waiting for? Go...go buy one!
