5 Ways To Save Money This Autumn

Autumn is almost here, and with the new season, comes new ways to spend your money! The summer has passed and the money we think we are going to save on days out and hungry kids will be spent on heating bills and saving for Christmas! So how can you save money this autumn? Here are 5 tips to get you started on saving the pounds and pennies!

1. Check your central heating system is working to its full potential.

No-one said this list was gonna be fun! Check your heaters by turning them on, turning up the thermostat and checking each one for cold spots and any unusual sounds. Bleed radiators if they need it, this is a really simple job (if I can do it anyone can!) and is a lot easier than you may think. Another clever hack for you...if you stick strips of tin foil to the wall behind the radiator (shiny side facing out) the heat will bounce off back into the room, reducing your heating bills.

Check your boiler is working efficiently, if you can afford to you should think about having your boiler serviced once a year by a qualified engineer. There could be small problems, which could get a lot worse if left undetected, or potential risks which could become resolved, before any problems occur. This will help avoid costly repairs.

HomeServe Heating have put together a fun energy saving tool, showing you how replacing your old boiler translates into real-world items!

2. Make some new money saving resolutions!

I don't know about you but when the new school year starts, it kinda feels like a mini new year. And thus we make some new resolutions too! Maybe you are looking at quitting smoking and are on the look out for an E cigarette starter kit? Did you know that regular smoker's spend £40 a week on cigarettes? Switching to e-cigs could save you around £100 a month! Or maybe you want to save money on your food shop? Watch my top tips for meal planning below!

3. Invest in a slow cooker.

So I had a look around the web and did you know that using a crock pot, as our US friends like to call them, uses the same amount of electricity as a light bulb AND could save you 50% on your energy bills! You can pick up a slow cooker for as little as £25 so it is well worth the investment!

4. Make money from your sofa!

5. Think twice about switching the heating on!

Before you opt for the thermostat, think about grabbing a blanket, or a jumper! Personally our heating doesn't go on until winter when it is really cold!! It definitely doesn't come on in autumn. Can you believe I have seen people post on Facebook that they had switched the heating on IN AUGUST! I know we didn't have the warmest summer, but I am 100% positive it didn't get as cold as that, I'm also 100% sure that a jumper would have warmed them up just enough!

I remember when I was a child we didn't get heating installed until I was a preteen! A good old jumper and some warm fluffy socks should keep you warm and if it doesn't? Grab a blanket
