A Num Noms Halloween #SpookySenses

Halloween is just within touching distance and we have been getting our bake on in the kitchen, inspired by Num Noms. Just like the Num Noms these chocolate, strawberry and liquorice spooky spider cupcakes smell just delicious! OK so they may not be about to win any prices for the best looking cupcakes, but y mini monsters came up with this recipe, and implemented it all by themselves, and to them they are the bestest thing ever!!

When I told the monsters they could make anything they wanted for  Halloween, they were adamant that they wanted to make red spooky spider cupcakes. So of we went to the supermarket to find things we needed to make cakes. They wanted them to be chocolate cupcakes. And they wanted them to have faces, unfortunately we couldn't find any of the cute candy eyes that all the best food bloggers use,  so they chose to compromise and decided they could cut up Haribo hears and use them as eyes. they also decided that Haribo fried eggs worked great because they already have eye balls!

So we got home and let me tell you...madness ensued. There was a video to go along side this but, oh my. It was crazy and at least all times through the video one of the kids were stood in front of the camera, so that idea got binned off!

Here's the recipe , if just by any chance you decide you want to make them!!!

What you need:
3/4 cup plain flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
Strawberry flavouring
Red colouring
Icing sugar
Liquorice wheels
Black writing icing

Cream the butter and sugar, add the egg and mix again, add the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder and combine. Divide the mix among the prepared cupcake cases. Bake in a preheated oven, gas mark 4, for 20-25 minutes. Leave to cool completely before making up a  strawberry icing using the colouring, strawberry flavouring, icing sugar and water. Don't worry if your icing is a little runny it adds to the effect if it is running down the cupcake cases! (and anyways who has ever cooked with kids and ended up with perfect anything!!)

Next cut up Haribo and the liquirice wheels and sweets to make eyes, spidery legs and a mouth, finish the eyes with black writing icing and your done!
