#KidsInTheGarden Our (DIY) Herb Garden

When Leandra, our good friend over at LarabeeUK, said she was hosting the kids in the garden blog hop, I knew that we should get involved, I had lots of ideas running around in my head, although lots of them had to be dumped (basically because I have no idea about DIY!) so, in the end, I left it to the hubby to come up with something he could make with Ellie and Jenson BUT that the younger girls could get involved with too! He ended up making this great wooden planter for our herbs, and, what's more, it has ticked something off our spring bucket list!

So whilst Dean and the bigger 2 set about getting all DIY-tastic with drills and saws, I calmed my nerves by taking a walk to Morrisons with the littleys and collected some living herb tubs, and we also made some plant markers so that we knew what each thing was when we planted them!

I wish I could tell you how they made the planter..I will tell you what I got told.

''Well it depends on the sizes of wood they have, just make a frame and drill some wood together'' - Dean (hubby)
''You just need some wood and a drill Mummy'' - Jenson
''It was bit hard but really easy as well'' - Ellie
(Yeah thank's for that conflicting info there Ellie!)

Then it was time to fill with soil (or in our case not even half fill, back to B&Q at the weekend!) and plant our herbs. I have read conflicting information about growing herbs in pots from the supermarket so we will see how this works, I will let you know if it doesn't work out!

I think the monster's did a great job what do you think? I know it isn't perfect and it needs a bit of a tidy up with a file or sandpaper...or whatever and yes there is probably plenty wrong with it, but it was made by an 11-year-old and a 5-year-old who are super proud of their hard work! And it cost so little to make, Dean always has scraps of wood around and we also had some leftover feather edge fence panels which did the job perfect!

  1. We have a herb planter and the kids love going and picking some to add to dinner as and when we need. Ours has been going strong for 3 years now, with some starting as supermarket pots!
