Cheese and Apple Loaf | Cooking With Kids

We have finally started back at cooking class with the girls. We took a (quite long) break due to starting back at school and well I got lazy in the things I did with the monsters. I really do recommend if you have a local kids cooking class that you are able to attend then go check it out! We got a FREE class at our local Sure Start...This week we made cheese and apple loaf. The monsters enjoyed this warm just out of the oven the most...

What you need:
Vegetable oil for  greasing
150g plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
20g soft butter
1 apple (cut into easy to manage slices for your little one to handle)
1 egg
50g cheese (plus extra for a cheesy topping!)
up to 50ml apple juice

Put the flour, baking powder and butter in a bowl and 'tickle' (ie rub in between fingers) until you get a fine crumbly mixture.
Cut up the apple into bite size pieces. Your little one may not be able to handle a knife sharp enough, if this is the case just 'snap' the apple with hands, next grate the cheese and add to the mixture.
In a cup beat an egg and add it into the mixture, it is at this point you will need to add a bit of apple juice. GO SLOWLY with this step. The mixture should end up like a cake mixture.
Spoon into a loaf tin and sprinkle with remaining cheese.
Bake in a preheated oven (180c/Gas mark 4) for about 40 minutes.
Leave to cool slightly then cut up and eat warm.

Pin for later.
