Sweet Potato and Tuna Fishcakes | Cooking With Kids

During half term the mini monsters had a go at making these yummy sweet potato and tuna fishcakes, they did swell and did almost all the recipe themselves!

Easy Halloween 'Mummy' Bunting.

I have already told you that I love homemade stuff for Halloween so this week we have made our own hunting. It was really easy to use and kept the monsters busy for 3 separate occasions, so as much as it sounds like a FAFF I think the end result of our Mummy bunting is awesome!

Halloween Face Paints with Snazaroo.

Normally our Halloween outfits consist literally of just the outfit we rarely face paint mainly because I find shop bought face paint  its always a pain to remove and ends up with screaming kids and stained faces so when Snazaroo got in touch and asked if we would like to try their face paints I said yes!

Knowing that Snazaroo are the brand the pros use but my mind at rest that all would be well and so  yesterday afternoon me and the kids got creative and had a go! Bear in mind I've never face painted please so be kind in the comments box!

Frankenstein.

Using a dark green , we used the Snazaroo Classic Face Paint (£4.15), cover the whole face I found the large Snazaroo sponges worked best for this and made the job really easy and effortless.

Next using a Snazaroo face paint stick in black (£4.49 for 6 multi), draw a zigzag line in the middle of  of the forehead. Then use a brush to colour the area above in black to form the hair.

To finish off use the brush and black paint to add some "scars" and your ready....

Tah Dah... What do you think?

Purple Witch.

Evie wanted to be a purple witch so taking some inspiration from google images here is what we came up with...
Using the smaller Snazaroo sponge that came in the Halloween Face Paint Kit (£13.00) create an ombre effect circle (OK, OK or similar shape) using the purple paint in the Halloween face paint kit. Start just above the eyebrow and finish just at the cheek bone. Use the thin brush, again from the Halloween Kit and black paint to draw a thick chunky eyebrow towards the top of your circle, just above your own eyebrow. Then to finish of, still using the black paint and brush draw a cobweb on one cheek, a spider dangling from the eye on the opposite side and some black on the lips.  We didn't have any but I would love to have finished it off with some of this Snazaroo glitter gel on the spider web!

What do you think?

If painting faces is a bit to scary for you why not try the Snazaroo stencils (£4.15 for 6)  All you need is a face paint of your choice and a sponge. It takes a few seconds to create something. And was perfect for little ones who don't sit for long but want their face painted too (cough cough...Elsie...cough cough)

On the matter of clean up, I was VERY VERY impressed with how easily the face paint came off, considering how well it coped with being touched and prodded and rubbed by little fingers! With just one baby wipe Jenson's face was clean and not a stained face or tear in sight!!!

We are having a Halloween/birthday party on Thursday for Elsie and I can't wait to get our face paints out and try a few more designs! Make sure you follow us on Instagram to see what we come up with! I can't wait to use the Snazaroo Special FX Kit!

I really love the Snazaroo face paints, they may seem expensive but it is most definitively worth it, the face paints we have been sent will last us forever! I think I am definitely going to purchase more and practice a bit more too!!

Disclaimer: We were sent the Snazaroo products in return for a post, all words/opinions are my own.

Glow In The Dark No Carve Pumpkin

So for as much as I love Halloween I really HATE carving pumpkins! So this year I really wanted to try a no carve version so taking inspiration from some glow in the dark stickers we had, we got creative...

What you need:
Black paint (we used normal kidspaint)
Paint brush
Mess mat
Glow in the dark stickers (alternatively use glow in the dark paint and stenicils)

We made a quick video to show you how...

What do you think? How will you be decorating your pumpkin this year?

5 Ideas For...No Carve Pumpkins

So I have an admission to make...I hate carving pumkins! So this year I think we are going to go with a no carve pumpkin idea, so I have been searching around and here are 5 of my fave ideas for no carve pumpkins...

Family Meal Plan #8

Half Term! Lot of yummy Autumnal meals this week (thanks Pinterest!)...and a little change to the meal plan with the addition of lunches to the menu this week.

Top Tip: Mix new tastes up by placing with a food you know the children will eat.

Chicken Salsa With Courgette Spaghetti

What's Your Wish? Celebrating 10 Years with Pampers and Unicef.

Did you know that this year mark the 10th Anniversary of the Pampers and Unicef 1 pack = 1 vaccine campaign? Approx 500,000 newborn babies have been saved and a vaccine now reaches a mother and her baby every second every day.

However, there are still 21 countries where the disease remains a threat. Which is why I am posting today. If you had just one wish for your child what would it be? I'm going to guess that good health is high up on the list right?

Maternal and newborn tetanus may not be a disease that you’re familiar with, but it affects families in some of the poorest areas of the world and occurs when newborns are infected as a direct result of unhygienic birthing practices.

Once newborn tetanus has been contracted there is no real cure.

And it claims the lives of 49,000 newborns every year, which is equivalent to one baby’s life every 11 minutes.

And we can help, thanks to the support of parents like us, Pampers and Unicef have helped to eliminate maternal and newborn tetanus in 17 countries. BUT  there are still 21 countries where the disease remains a threat. By purchasing any product in the Pampers range you will automatically send a vaccine to a Mother and her baby.

Whats more just by reading this post and watching the video below an extra 3 vaccines will be sent to one of those 17 countries still fighting to eliminate maternal and newborn tetanus.

AND you can help even more!

As Pampers and Unicef blow out the candles on their tenth birthday cake and make their one wish, they want to see your photos of your little monsters blowing out the candles on their birthday –  For every heart-warming picture you share of your LO’s birthday wish on social media using the #PampersUNICEF hashtag AND every time you share the Wish film below, Pampers will donate the cost of another vaccination.

So come on, what are you waiting for, you have already donated 3 vaccines just from reading this post and you can help even more, remember
1 pack = 1 vaccine
1 wish = 1 vaccine
1 share = 1 vaccine

Milk And Cookies. The Perfect Afterschool Combo?

Every day after school I make the monsters a snack. That snack usually includes milk and some other kind of snack. Their most favourite though is most definitely cookies...

Activity Time. DIY Halloween Skittles

By now you all now I am a little obsessed with toilet roll crafts! And although these didn't turn out quite exactly as I imagined them to look (thanks to toddler mixing colours...ggrrr...hence the grey ghosts!) the end result still made my monsters happy, smiling and engrossed in something other than the TV for at least 30 minutes!

5 Ideas For...Kids Crafts With Leaves

Right now my monsters are obsessed with everything Autumn, especially leaves. Every day after school they collect armfuls and I make them throw them back on the ground just before we get home...because hey who wants a house full of dead leaves! Then it got me thinking and so I ran to the internet and wrote this list of 5 ideas for kids crafts with leaves!

Family Meal Plan #7

I am so looking forward to this weeks menu!

Top Tip: Take advantage of supermarket's meat offers (3 for £10 etc) its usually worth it if you are able to freeze and use the week after.

Chicken, Kale and Lentil Soup | Recipe

There is nothing more satisfying than a warm and filling soup on an autumns evening. Especially when the whole family are about at different times due to clubs, working late, gym etc etc. A soup you can just keep in the pan and  reheat as needed, with some thick crusty bread on the side to mop up the last of the liquid...yum!

#ToddlerApprovedTuesday #51

5 Ideas For...A Homemade Halloween.

We are big fan of homemade goodies, if I can make it I wont buy it! So as we head to Halloween I've been searching for bits we can make ourselves, instead of handing our money over to the shops! So here are 5 ideas for a homemade Halloween...

Family Meal Plan #6

IT'S NATIONAL CURRY WEEK! So I will be sneaking in a couple of new flavours and tastes this week, non of which are really going to be called 'curry' out loud else the hubs wont eat it!

Top Tip: Whilst it seems a lot of money to spend at first, buying pots of various herbs and spices is cheaper than buying pre-made jar/sachet's of sauces etc in the long run. And they are a whole lot tastier too!

Bourbon Biscuit Birthday Cake | Recipe

It was Deans birthday yesterday and I always try and make him a cake that he will like (well he would like any cake to be honest!) and right now he is obsessed with bourbon biscuits! He has had one of the chocolate box cakes  when he was eating a million Kit Kats a day (you know Kit Kat edged and piled up with Malteasers etc on top) and a Haribo cake when he was a big kid and eat a bag of Haribo a night...so its a bit of a tradition you see!

Peppa Pig Tumble and Spin Game Review

If you have a toddler at home then I am sure Pepp-pandemonium has hit your home too! We were sent the new electronic Peppa Pig Tumble and Spin Game to try out and this made the monster's VERY happy!

Support Marie Curie with A #FeelSuper Selfie

Marie Curie is a charity very close to my heart, so when I heard about Superdrug and P&G teaming up to raise £200,000 for them I just knew I had to tell you all about it.

D.I.Y Halloween Paper Pumpkin

It's no secret we love Halloween, last year we made decorations for the mantle piece, this year we have made some decor for the widow ledges and (non working) fire place. These paper pumpkin are really easy to make and a great bit of D.I.Y decor.

Halloween Fun with Baker Ross.

I'm trying hard to get back into after school activities with the monsters, I find Baker Ross is great for our After School Mats. We got some great Halloween Crafts to try.

Halloween Drink Recipe.

"Hubble Bubble Toil and Trouble...calling all monsters, here's a magic potion drink recipe worthy of turning those moaning mum's into frogs!!

Hi guys,

I came up with this recipe for a Halloween drink! It is a reddy purply colour and was great fun to make, me, Jenson and Evie pretended to be witches with our witch hats on and Mummy let us do what we wanted with all the ingredients!

Fill a cauldron (we got ours from Morrisons) and make up this drink, or why not try your own creations. It was great fun to do!

Love From
